Gleanings from the Daily Office – Same Job, Different Vocation

GLEANINGS (from the Daily Office) – Same Job, Different Vocation – Year One, Proper 19, Wednesday, September 16, 2015, Matthew 4:18-25

“I will make you fishers of men.”

Peter and Andrew had a job. They fished to earn a living. And that did not stop when they met Jesus. Peter was even fishing post death and resurrection (see John 21).

When Jesus walked by Peter and Andrew they did not give up their job. They did, however, take on a new vocation. Their purpose in life changed. They were to be used by God to draw others to His Son Jesus.

Regardless of the means by which we earn our living, we are meant to be fishers of men. How is God using you to draw others into the Kingdom? How are you letting Him?

–Frodo: “I wish none of this had happened.” Gandalf: “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”–
