The Pastor

ABOUT THE PASTOR

John Richardson is an Anglican missionary priest serving the United States under the direction of the Anglican Church of North America (ACNA). He has a Masters of Divinity from the University of the South (Sewanee), 1993, familypicand a Doctor of Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS), 1999. He is a former missionary to Bolivia.

From 1996 to 2002 John led the 6th fastest growing Episcopal (US branch of Anglicanism) church in the US. Since, he has led, as founding pastor, a rapidly growing Anglican church (AMiA) in Birmingham. in 2010 he relinquished that post after seven and a half years and following a sabbatical has moved to the Brookhaven/Chamblee area of Atlanta to plant an
Ancient Future Church, Grace Community. www.ancientfuturechurch.org.  After six and one half years of devoted planting and cultivating Grace had become a wonderful fellowship of 55 or 60 on Christmas Eve and Easter.  Alas, Grace did not take root and become sustainable.

In 2017 with care and institutional support from Heartbound Ministries, John began mentoring incarcerated youth, Under Grace Community that work is affectionately called “Grace and Truth Inside.” Seven years later in 2024 John serves incarcerated youth in three Atlanta area Juvenile Justice (DJJ) Facilities and one prison GDC). Just last year, 2023, John baptized 40, 39 of whom were Inside. Since 2017, he has baptized 60.

The fruit of this labor is a palpable. In 2023 a felon returned to prison with John to mentor others as he was mentored, In 2024, if the Lord wills, a 21 year old successful entrepreneur will return to Juvie with John to mentor as he was mentored.

John is married to Kristen Richardson. They have five children Mary (31), Madison (25), Dow (15), Whit (13) and Graham (12). In the few moments free of church leadership and parenting, John pursues a few idols including sun, boating, wakeboarding and snow skiing. He’s also rather fond of his undergraduate alma mater, the University of Alabama.
