GLEANINGS from the Daily Office – Let it go, Let it go
GLEANINGS (from the Daily Office) – Let it go, Let it go – Year One, Proper 21, Friday, October 2, 2015, 1 Corinthians 9:16-27
“I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.”
Paul was willing to let it go, everything, save the Gospel. He had no need to assert his Jewishness. He had no need to promote Rome or his citizenship. He had no need to be strong if it stood in the way of the reaching the weak. For Paul it was about the Gospel and others experiencing its blessings.
So Paul became a man without a country. I live with no illusion that Paul is perfect. But as to selflessness he still has much to teach me. Walk anywhere and take on any culture he would if it was useful to the Kingdom. Mine is a cloistered life by comparison.
–Frodo: “I wish none of this had happened.” Gandalf: “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”–
