GLEANINGS from the Daily Office – KISS
GLEANINGS (from the Daily Office) – KISS – Year One, Proper 23, Friday, October 16, 2015, 1 Corinthians 15:1-11
“That Christ died for our sins . . .”
Have you ever been pressed for the proverbial elevator talk on the heart of Christianity? Paul gives us the template:
- Christ died for our sin (in accordance with the scriptures)
- He was buried
- He was raised on in the third day (in accordance with the scripture)
- He appeared to Cephas and, the to the twelve
That’s it. He died FOR our sins. Consequently, like all dead people he was buried. But death did not have the last word. He was raised. Life continues. Many experienced Jesus alive and well.
This basic outline is found among both Peter and Paul. It is dubbed the kerygma, the preaching of the church.
Keep it simple, stupid. I am talking to me.
–Frodo: “I wish none of this had happened.” Gandalf: “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”–
