GLEANINGS From the Daily Office – Grace Has a Destination
GLEANINGS (from the Daily Office) – Grace Has A Destination – Year Two, Epiphany, Thursday, January 7, 2016, Colossians 1:1-14
“to lead a life worthy of the Lord”
The Church should be all about Grace. Our first gift to the world is to share the means by which one is released from bondage. In the absence of grace, people despair. What is the point!
Too often the church heaps judgment upon us indiscriminately. The sign not seen but felt outside the doors says, “Sinners stay clear.” Grace says, “Come on in.” Word!
However, grace has a destination, “a life worthy of the Lord.” Any communication of the Gospel without the hope in us and expectation from God of a transformed life in the disciple misses the mark. Indeed to use a word out of vogue it is heresy. Pastors do their people no favor by communicating half the story.
–Frodo: “I wish none of this had happened.” Gandalf: “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”–
