GLEANINGS from the Daily Office – Keep Me Seeking

GLEANINGS (from the Daily Office) – Keep me Seeking – Year One, Proper 26, Friday, November 2, 2015, Luke 12:22-31

“Instead, seek his kingdom . . .”

Instead of what? Being anxious, worrying about tomorrow and what it will hold – one daughter’s health, the skyrocketing cost of healthcare, another daughter’s college tuition, the futility of incurring debt in pursuit of a degree. These are high priorities. They are worthy of much attention but not to the detriment of seeking the kingdom.

Ironically being anxious about these things may keep one from the only place he will find peace. Peace comes in knowing we are in good and competent hands. God has our back. If He has the backs of ravens and lilies, how much more does he have ours?

Perspective helps too. Life is more than food. The body is more than clothing. Life ultimately goes on without either. A CPE supervisor once asked me, “What is your worst fear?” Naming it usually shows how small it is in the Kingdom scheme of things.

Help me seek, Lord Jesus!

–Frodo: “I wish none of this had happened.” Gandalf: “So do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.”–
